Showcase: Capturing Switzerland – An Exchange Student’s Journey Through Travel, Culture, and Social Media

Sixth Honors
Experience
Alongside my academic coursework, I completed a self-designed project in Switzerland focused on digital storytelling, cultural exploration, and social media impact. Over ten weeks, I created a travel and student-life content series across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and photography, documenting my experiences as an exchange student. This project combined creativity, intercultural learning, and technical production, allowing me to share an authentic representation of Swiss life with students who hope to study abroad in the future.

The project required consistent planning and reflection. I filmed daily scenes from student life, ESN events, city travel, solo trips, food experiences, and hidden cultural details that often go unnoticed in traditional travel media. I developed short-form videos, a travel guide for future exchange students, and a final compilation film showcasing the most meaningful moments. Engaging with other international students helped me capture diverse perspectives on adaptation, culture shock, and community building.

This experience strengthened my understanding of what it means to be a global citizen scholar. I learned to approach content creation not as entertainment but as a tool for connection, education, and cultural awareness. Documenting Switzerland pushed me to speak with locals, interview fellow students, and engage deeply with the places I visited. It taught me to be intentional in how I share stories and represent cultures that are not my own.

The project also enhanced my storytelling, editing, and audience engagement skills. I learned to analyze viewer feedback, refine my content style, and balance authenticity with creativity. These skills will directly support my long-term goals in technology, communication, and global research.
